What do you think about when you think of comfort? I personally think of a really long hug, snuggling under a blanket, my dad reaching out his arm to protect me on a roller coaster. I like the feeling of being comfortable. I like walking into a friend's very familiar house and being comfortable enough to just open up the fridge, grab something to eat, and plop down on the couch. As humans we are afraid of the unknown and so badly want to feel comfortable.
I often find my comfort in the people in my life. I rely on my friends and family to reach out to me and love on me. I tend to go straight to my mom or my boyfriend and hope they can give me a hug and let me know everything will be okay. I find comfort in my parents.
What if you don't have those people in your life? What if you feel alone and afraid and uncertain of the road ahead of you?
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 refers to our God as the God of all comfort. He comforts us in our troubles. When we are at our all time low he is there for us. He may be there in a song you hear on the radio that comforts you or gives you a friend that will listen when you need to talk. You may even physically feel his presence.
God comforts us so that we can comfort others. In my book Love God, Love Others, Love Yourself I describe how all love comes from God. This statement reappears in scripture numerous times. Love comes from God. And so does comfort! God comforts us so that we can turn and comfort others.
Find comfort in 2 Corinthians 1:3-5.
